This is a recent
revelation, well more a confirmation, to me and puts a whole new twist on
how I'll be reading the Old Testamnet from now on. I've heard it said that
the Old Testament (often times quoted in the NT) points towards Jesus. What
I didn't realize was how true that is. I've been a Christian for many years
but I've never really done much thinking or searching out for the Truth of
my own accord. Like many of you, I simply believed, and espounded on, what
I've *heard* as truth. The sad fact for most is they never do search out
the truth of their own will and wonder. Not so of you friend, you are here
:o} and bless you for taking the time to read this page, I hope it alights
onto your spirit as truth! But, please DO verify what I say from the Word
of God Himself, from your own Bible! I pray God allows you understanding
as you read on ...
A search on
BlueLetterBible.org
(KJV) for the word LORD brings up this information ... "LORD occurs 7836
times in 6668 verses". Now this is all forms of Lord from LORD of the OT
to Lord of the NT and may even refer to different types of lords, not just
our Lord Jesus. There are simply too many verses to go through them all,
you can do more research yourself if you are interested. I will include some
Strong's numbers (in brackets) to aid you in your research as I quote verses
below. This page is just meant to show you that I have indeed proven to myself
(and hopefully to you) that Jesus IS a living being and a God, and is mentioned
thousands of times in the OT ... He is referred to by different names and
titles, many of which are different translations for the names of God in
either Hebrew or Greek.
Hearing that the OT foretells of Jesus
I wanted to know where exactly those passages referring to Him were, I wanted
to search out if they were vague hints such as prophecies or parables or
vague mentionings, or if perhaps He's called by some other name we don't
realize is Him. Taking from the NT the following passage as my lead,
Jhn
1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that
was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
and more on
Jhn 1:10 "He was in the world, and
the world was made by him, and the world knew him not." WOW,
not a bad start ... here's more on His earthly manifestation:
Jhn 1:14
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,
(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth." Strongs numbers: the Word (3056 'logos' in
Greek, here's a quote from Strongs on BLB:
"3) In John, denotes the essential
Word of God, Jesus Christ, the personal wisdom and power in union with God,
his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all
the world's life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of
man's salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the
second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words
and deeds."); God (2316).
OK I'm convinced. Those NT passages
in themselves are quite heavy (spiritually deep) but where's the proof in
the OT? The words "the Word" occur in 598 verses, including 454 exact
phrase matches beginning as early back as
Genesis 15:1 "After these things
the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not,
Abram: I [am] thy shield, [and] thy exceeding great reward." The Strong's
numbers: Word (01697), LORD (03068) ... notice this "Word" came" in a vision",
Abram didn't SEE words ... he saw THE WORD indicated by the words "came unto
Abram, saying". Jesus Himself, in His original form before He became a man,
before He died and was resurrected ... what a magnificent sight He must have
been to behold. It is believed He (Jesus) has a *new form* now, after His
resurrection, a new resurrected glorified body (for which we, His followers,
will have a similarly resurrected and glorified body some day).
I'm in the midst of creating my newest
website
The Lamb's
Wife, which is a biblically based site quoting scriptures for prophecies
relating to end-times (now and into the future). I was working on my page
for
Zechariah
(the prophet) when I ran into this particular eye-opening, mind & thought
inspiring passage:
Zechariah 12:10 "And I will pour upon the house of
David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of
supplications: and they shall look upon me whom
they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth
for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is
in bitterness for [his] firstborn." WOW, do you see it??? LORD in the
OT is Jesus, He is the one "whom they have pierced", we know this (then prophecy)
was fullfilled and verified in the NT in Jesus' cruscifiction!
Need more proof?
Zechariah 14:4-5
"And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which
[is] before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives
shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, [and
there shall be] a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove
toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee [to]
the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach
unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake
in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD
my God shall come, [and] all the saints with thee." That's
pretty solid proof no? We know that this prophecy refers to Jesus at His
second coming, also spoken of in Revelation. This is speaking of our Lord's
imminent return! PAY CLOSE ATTENTION FRIENDS ... now you know WHERE He will
return to ... so be on the watch and don't be fooled, as the NT says in Matthew
... He will not be in the wilderness, He will not be over here or over there
... when He returns He will do so ON the Mount of Olives IN JERUSALEM, the
exact same place He ascended to heaven from! Strong's number for LORD (03068)
my God (0430). The term "LORD my God" itself is listed in the OT in 261 verses,
including 38 exact phrase matches.
Not convinced? Zechariah is too closely written to the NT books? OK well
let's go waaaaaaaaaay back ... let's go to Genesis and tie it with John 1
above shall we?
Gen 2:4-7 "These [are] the generations of the heavens
and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, And
every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the
field before it grew: for the LORD God
had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and [there was] not a man to till
the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole
face of the ground. And the LORD God formed
man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath
of life; and man became a living soul." Woohoo! Are ya getting
it yet? :o}Strongs numbers: LORD (03068) God (0430).
Consider this ... in the OT, Jesus
had not yet come to earth in flesh form, He did not yet have a *man name*
although even His man name was predicted and came to pass. The OT simply
calls Him
LORD God, where LORD in Hebrew is
Elohim,
which is a plural word for one of the names of God, and as God. The LORD
is Jesus, God is God, Jesus IS the Son of God, therefore a God. With this
in mind, I urge you to read the OT anew giving credit to our Lord Jesus when
you see LORD or LORD God therein. We can see from the verses quoted above
that He is listed as other names, such as the Word, God, Light, Life (NT)
~ but that's another article huh!?
I could go on and on and on! Hopefully
I have inspired you to do some homework. Get to know your Lord and Savior,
our Messiah ... our soon returning King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
